Website copy can suffer from some of the same maladies as conventional printed copy.

For example, with conventional sales copy, it’s important to break it up with subheads and headings to keep the copy spaced well, and make it look like much less work to read. Remember, the more work a prospect believes he or she is going to have to put into reading your sales copy, the less chance there is that they’re really going to read it all, let along buy what you have to offer.

So what do we do with that copy? We insert headings, bullets, subheads, headlines . . . we bold some copy, all-caps some copy, Italicize some more copy, underline still more copy, and sometimes maybe use all of these things at once.

By breaking up that copy with the headings and such, we’re making it look like it’s less work to read, while the bolding and italicizing and etc. simply serve to give the copy visual appeal. The copy no longer looks like a block of black ink - now it would have some variance in it.

Now, we’re going to cover a fast and easy way to get your web site customers to buy more. That’s the goal of any site owner and like most good ideas it is actually very simple.

People visit a site, but what are the chances of them buying? Most don’t buy on the first visit to any site. There is research that says it takes anywhere from three to seven visits before people actually make a purchase.

So, if most people only go to a site one time and yet they only buy on the third to seventh visit, how are you going to make any money?

You are going to make money by encouraging them and giving them a reason to visit your site more than once - And you can do that with a simple e-mail campaign.

Now, we know that doesn’t sound very revolutionary, but most sites never get around to instigating a real formal effective e-mail campaign. In your e-mail, tell them that there is something new on your site. Tell them there is something free there. You tell them you have a new special offer. You have a piece of news. An answer to a survey. All of these are very good ways to build traffic.

You can send out e-mail and ask your customers a question that they would all be interested in the answer to and you can later send them an e-mail that says “Hey, the results of this survey are posted on my site. Stop by.” Don’t give the answer in the e-mail. Give them a reason to have to come back to your site.

Make them a special offer. It doesn’t have to be a discount. Somehow on the Internet people have always gotten the idea that you have to reduce the price in order to build traffic or to get people’s interest. People go where they feel welcome, where they are comfortable, and most of all whether it’s convenient to buy.

So for the foreseeable future e-mail is probably the greatest marketing tool out there. And, for this reason, it has the ability to transport your buyer to the point of sale.

Now think about that - that’s what makes it different from all the other media. You can place an ad on television or in the newspaper and you see that ad and you’re interested. So what do you have to do? You have to get in the car, you have to drive to a store, you have to find a place to park, you have to go in, you have to find the clerk and then you have to ask for the item. And chances are the clerk can’t find it, doesn’t know anything about it, and if they do they don’t have it in the size or color that you need.

Compare that to a purchase on the Internet in your e-mail reminder. You send them an e-mail. The e-mail tells them about your special offer that interests them. All they have to do is click on the link that you put on the e-mail to go right into your store on your site.

All the information is in front of them so they can make an informed decision. When they decide this is what they want, this is the product they need, fill out the order form and if your product is music, digital, if it’s printed material that they can download, software, they have the product instantly, right there, right then.

At worst, they are going to get it in two days through the mail. So what have you done? You have eliminated the delay between the saying “I want it” and “I’ve got it”. And we know that the longer that delay, the more likely is the customer will get sidetracked and not place that order.

Essentially e-mails bring your prospects to your store instantly, and it’s free. That’s right, it doesn’t cost you a cent! So build repeat traffic and more sales with your e-mails.

You should E-mail your customers often. How often? As often as you can give them a good reason to visit! As often as you can give them a good reason to return! Don’t just write your customers or send them an e-mail when you have something to sell, you can send them a piece of information that they find useful to help build that relationship.

We think e-mailing twice a month is a really good idea. Some people mail more frequently than that, and if you have something worthwhile, that’s okay. But the result is if you send too often, people can get tired of seeing your mail, they become accustomed to seeing it, and it is not as likely to get opened and to have action taken.

Here is an e-mail tip that we’ve found really makes a difference in your e-mail. Make your e-mail more personal.

Most people send an e-mail and they try to do a sales letter, like a regular mailing. We don’t think that’s the best idea in e-mail. Give them part of the story in your message and then refer them with a link back to your site for the rest of the information.

If they’re not willing to click, they’re not going to buy. So you may as well tease them, give them a benefit, make them an offer, and make that e-mail really personal. We use really short messages with a subject heading that is a little different. Like one of our messages says “You may think I’m crazy, Bill, but ...” We’re using their name, and the but, and crazy, and then they open it and it says, “... because I keep writing you. And the reason that I am writing you again is because you were interested and I’ve got this special offer and it expires Wednesday and I know it was something you were interested in and I’ve now even sweetened the deal. That is all our message says, but we get really good response to that. If they are not willing to click, they are not ready to be a buyer. It’s an easy, fast and simple way to build sales.

The Secret To Making Up To$500,000 A Year With Newspapers

Very few Direct-Response Marketing professionals run ads in local newspapers. But you can. Below are the steps you can take to make huge amounts of money by advertising in newspapers. We’ll also give you a quick mathematical example to show you how simple it could be to bring in $500,000 a year in sales by advertising in newspapers:

1) Use our answering machine methods.

Run small classified ads in newspapers with endings that say something like: “Amazing Recorded Message Reveals Details”, or “Call Our 24-Hour Recorded Hotline”. The purpose of the small ad is to simply get people to call in and listen to your recording. The recording sells them further by giving them all the benefits of whatever you’re selling and tells them how they can get it.

2) Sell informational products.

Informational products can be anything from cassette and video tapes, to guides and manuals, to reports or home study courses. You should develop informational products for the newspapers you want to sell them to. The next step will show you how to do this.

They are interested in finding a job, or going to a garage sale, or buying a car. Now all you have to do is develop a product that shows them how you can help them get what they want. Run an ad that promises them the biggest benefit, and let them dial your number and listen to your recorded message.

4) Test like crazy. Figure out a way to advertise profitably in 500 newspapers.

You may have to test 5,000 newspapers to find the 500 that make profits for you consistently. You’ll make money in some newspapers and lose money in others. The secret is to test your ads in as many newspapers as you can to find out which newspapers consistently make you money.

5) Find 500 newspapers that earn continuous profits and make a net profit of $1,000 per newspaper.

A net profit of $1,000 a year in 500 newspapers is $500,000 a year. In the next step we’ll break this down even further and show you how many sales you would have to have to bring in this huge amount of money.

6) $1,000 net profit per paper is equal to less than $20.00 per paper every week.

Are you staring to get excited? Good! This is just an example based on mathematical projections, but it’s important to break down all of your ideas into this type of formula. Now let’s break it down even further.

7) $20.00 per paper means selling 4 $25-books - and keeping a profit of 25%.

This is the total amount of sales you would need per newspaper to reach your goal. Think about the simplicity of this formula. You start small.... testing slowly.... with a goal of just selling four of your $25 books, manuals, or other informational products and keeping 25%. You keep testing all kinds of different ads, sales messages, scripts, etc. until you can do this. THE DAY YOU CAN EARN THIS PROFIT IN 10 NEWSPAPERS IS THE DAY YOU REJOICE! Why? Because if you can earn this profit in 10 newspapers, the chances are good that you can do it in 100... then 200... then 500. And if that happened, you’d be on your way to earning $500,000 a year.

8) The secret is to begin at the end.

You know the “numbers” it will take to earn this amount. You know you need to sell four of your $25 products at a 25% profit margin per newspaper every week. That’s the beginning. Then you simply figure out how to do it by testing slowly.

Our $500,000 a year in sales is a mathematical example only that is based on certain number of sales in a certain number of newspapers. It is not a guarantee that you can do this. Next thing you know, you type in eBay.com, and you’re visiting an auction site. Visit somebody’s auction site! Go to winebid.com and look at the wines, or go to eBay. There are so many categories there. Hit some of these sites and just browse. Look around.

After you do that, I suggest you buy something, because once you go through the whole motion as a consumer, as a customer of one of these sites, you get a very, very good feeling for how the whole process works. You will also, know what your customer is going through when you start selling. So, buy something. You don’t have to spend a lot of money, but buy something.

Okay, now it’s time to sell something . . . so what do you sell?

A lot of people say, “Oh, well, I don’t know what to sell.” Have a garage sale on the Internet. Everybody’s got stuff in their house that they no longer need. Then, if we’re having fun, the way to get more products is to go to garage sales. If you know the price, if you’re a guy that could win the Price is Right on TV in a certain category, just go around and look for stuff at garage sales. You don’t need to buy a lot of it, but if you see a deal, something that’s just an incredible bargain like that Mark Twain book, of course you snap that up.

Everybody buys these treadmills and exercise machines, and then they never use them. So, they hang their clothes on them for a few months, and then their spouse says get that thing out of here. So, they sell it, and they might have paid $300, $400, or $500, and they’ll end up selling it for $75. You could get it and sell it for half price on the Internet. People would say, “Wow, I saw that on TV, saw it on the infomercial, but it cost too much.” So, they’re almost sold. Then, they see it on Ebay for half price. Suddenly, they buy it.

Go into thrift shops. Look for old trains, jewelry, or whatever it is you’re interested in. Flea markets are great places to find bargains. Then, just read the classified ads. You can pick up all these goodies, and this gets your feet wet. Get on-line, you go, you buy something, then you sell something that you’ve got in your attic or in your house, your garage. Just to see how it works. Then, start expanding! The hardest part is getting started.

Where Will Your Biggest P-R-O-F-I-T-S Come From?

Remember, if you start a promotion aimed to bring in new customers without focusing on selling to the old customers you are starting over from the beginning again. But, if you keep money coming in from those old customers, you keep a profit foundation coming in.

Look at it this way - your back-end sales are the foundation of your building, and your front-end sales are the extensions, the growth, and the expansion of this building. With back-end and repeat sales, you can keep your profits growing and growing!

How Direct-Response Takes The Gamble Out Of Business!

In most of the restaurants that are very successful, the person who puts it together has to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars before they ever take in a dime - before they know whether or not that restaurant will make money.

Most other businesses have to do that, too. They have to put up a large amount of money to put their business together, and they don’t even know if it will make any money!

Direct response marketing is not like this, though. This is how being in business does not have to be a gamble at all! In direct response marketing, you only have to spend small quantities of money on small amounts of advertising to test and find out what will make you the most money. In essence, this is how to completely minimize any loss that you make have!

Let’s say you test ten ideas. Eight bomb. But the other two are winners. You can more than make up for the losses you suffered from the other eight ideas by expanding those winners in the marketplace.

Also, if you have an established customer base, you can use it as part of your testing ground because they trust you more and you have a relationship with them. They will buy from you more than any other group will. First, you go to your best customers who have the highest chance of buying what you have to offer.

Then you go to your general customer base. If they buy what you have to offer, then you’re ready to start testing outside of your customer base to new prospects who have never done business with your company before.
